Midvale Middle School
For this project, I began with an orientation assembly with a self-selected group of middle school students where I spoke about being a professional artist, authenticity, and the collaborative project. I had the students work on drawings over the week to give me inspiration for the mural. After collecting all the artwork, I condensed the material into three general concepts - academic achievement, world unity, and miscellaneous/Utah. I sketched in the linework and then held two after-school painting sessions where the students helped with the fills. I had support from an assistant principal and the art teacher, and it was a lot of fun for the kids. Afterwards, I cleaned up mistakes and added the final linework.
